Le Tour comes to town!

With just over two weeks to go, excitement is starting to build for Le Tour de Yorkshire which will be coming to Helmsley on Sunday 1st May 2016. The official race caravan and entourage, followed by the peloton are expected around 1.24pm, en route from Middlesborough via the North York Moors and across to the East Coast, culminating at Scarborough.

As the crowds gather throughout the town, The Black Swan will be the perfect place to watch as the races passes through the market place, with a dedicated viewing area at the front of the hotel available for spectators. With the town decked in blue and yellow bunting and balloons, The Black Swan will also offer café style seating and an al fresco bar area for guests to enjoy refreshments, and snacks served from our award winning Tearoom.

The Black Swan is also delighted to host an art exhibition within the hotel of works by Lucy Pittaway, the official artist of the Tour de Yorkshire.

The Richmond-based pastel artist has been chosen as the official artist for this year’s race. A print of her colourful picture, entitled Hills, Dales and Woolly Tails, which depicts the excitement, endurance and tenacity of the race, set against the unique Yorkshire backdrop with an eager crowd of fluffy spectators will be on show in the hotel.

In addition to the official Tour picture, Lucy has extended her existing cycling range to include iconic visions of the local area and capture the spirit of the race within seven additional pictures that complement the official image, prints of many of which will be on display.

The Black Swan will also be joined by the Helmsley branch of the RNLI, the official charity of the Tour de Yorkshire, who will be based at the front of the hotel.

Once the race has passed, the street party atmosphere will continue with live music from our acoustic duo throughout the afternoon to help you relax and enjoy the rest of your Bank Holiday weekend.

With so much to see and do, where better place to spend your Sunday afternoon?
