Cooking Up Support for Children In Need
The Black Swan at Helmsley and its brigade of Chefs are donating generously to this year’s ‘BBC Children In Need’ campaign.
The charitable work was spearheaded by twenty three year old Sous Chef, Luke Palmer , who began the fund raising efforts by preparing a series of private dinner parties, hosted by family and friends in the UK and Spain during recent months. So far, he has raised almost £600, and he has more parties yet to come!
In addition, £1 will be donated by the hotel for each six and ten course taster menu sold in the hotel’s new restaurant ‘The Gallery’ during ‘Children in Need’ week, Monday 15th to Sunday 17th November. The amount raised will also be matched by the kitchen team, and in addition, hotel guests and diners will be invited to donate too.
Special ‘Pudsey Bear’ novelty cakes will also be sold in the Tearoom during November, with the full amount being donated to the cause.
Luke commented, ‘Each year I watch Children In Need and feel as though I should be using my culinary talents in some way to help with this incredible fund raising effort, this year I finally decided to take action. It’s been great fun, and I have really enjoyed the dinner parties, especially encouraging folk to try out dishes in their own homes to share with friends. All the charity money raised as well has been brilliant, definitely a win-win!’
