The Black Swan and Feversham Arms are 2 iconic independent hotels based in Helmsley North Yorkshire employing a combined 140 members of staff.  An exciting new opportunity has arisen for an HR Manager to join the team to set up and lead the Human Resources Department to cover both properties. Reporting directly to the Owners Representative, this position will be key in designing and driving forward the People Strategy for both hotels.

Responsibilities will include:

• Key member of the Management team responsible for the people strategy for 140 members of staff across 2 hotels
• Design, implementation and performance of all people matters including absence, benefits / compensation, communication, compliance / contracts, disciplinary / grievance, engagement equality / diversity, handbook, holidays, occupational health, pensions, performance appraisals, recruitment / agencies, staff accommodation, staff council,  succession planning, training, turnover, values and well being
• Accountable for Learning and Development Strategy ensuring aligned with HR and Business Strategy
• Taking a lead role in driving forward the company culture across both properties engaging leaders and team members in adopting a forward thinking , people and customer focussed workplace that achieves it’s goals whilst being a fun place to work
• Business partner to the Owners Representative including support and guidance on development, targets and performance management of management team
• Provide coaching, advice and strategic solutions for all levels of management on their leadership and HR skills
• Accountable for recruitment, training, accommodation and welfare budgets
• Accountable for the design and implementation of all HR policies to ensure they fit with the company culture and comply with latest legal requirements
• Project design, leadership and management including restructures, 6 monthly employee engagement surveys, HR systems and process improvements
• Monthly collation, production, interpretation and reporting of all HR metrics
• Employee relations including dealing with union representatives and grievances
• Leadership and line management of HR Assistant

Ideally (although not essential), the successful candidate will have the following attributes, qualifications and experience:

• Adaptable and thrives on variety / activity
• Tough minded, empathetic and customer focussed
• CIPD qualified
• Current or Recent HR Manager experience
• Food Retail, Retail or hospitality background

We are a well known 45 bedroom independent hotel in a North Yorkshire with restaurant and event facilities. An exciting opportunity has arisen for Assistant Food & Beverage Managers with a focus on amazing customer service and support the growth of this ever developing department.

Reporting directly to the Food & Beverage Manager this position will assist in the management of the Food & Beverage team to ensure exemplary member and guest service.

Role and Responsibilities

• Assisting in the training and development of the F&B team to ensure standards and procedures are met in all areas.
• Improving and maintaining standards to ensure our member’s needs and expectations are met.
• Input during the weekly function sheet/departmental meetings.
• Controlling costs and maximising sales opportunities to ensure department targets are met.
• As part of this, very hands on role you will assist in the delivery of service in our F & B Department.
• You will be responsible for ensuring that manpower is effectively managed in order to achieve and exceed budgeted sales.
• You will build and maintain good relationships with other departments, senior management, key stakeholders, members and their guests.
• All in all you will be the face of the floor driving sales.

What we are looking for

To successfully fill this role, you should have the following:

• To communicate confidently with both groups and individuals at all levels.
• You will be organised, self-motivated and have the proven ability to multi-task.
• You must also be able to demonstrate attention to detail and be able to lead the team in the absence of the F&B Manager.

Skills and qualification requirements of an Assistant Food & Beverage Manager:

• Previous F&B supervisory experience is required
• Candidates must have immaculate personal presentation and excellent interpersonal skills
• Excellent communications skills with a strong command of the English language
• MUST possess the legal right to work in the UK
• The F&B Assistant Manager must have a flexible schedule with the ability to work all shifts, weekends and holidays.
• The ideal candidate will also have solid food and wine knowledge, a strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask.
• Excellent customer service skills with the ability to anticipate guest needs and go the extra mile
• The ability to lead a multi level and outlet operation

Reporting directly to the Head Chef or Senior Chefs this position will assist in the running of a busy kitchen.

Role and Responsibilities

• A Chef De Partie’s main responsibility in the kitchen is to ensure daily Mise en Place for a given section is done in a timely and efficient manner.
• As a Chef De Partie you will be trained by Senior Chefs on each menu item thus improving your knowledge and skill base.
• Chef De Parties will also be responsible for passing on training to Commis Chefs to help both their learning.
• You must be fully competent in running a section in a busy service

The chef de partie position offers amazing opportunities to learn from and be inspired by the senior chefs in the kitchen, which will help your passion for food and keep you on the path for a great career.

Key responsibilities:

• Preparing, cooking and helping to present dishes
• Helping to train any Demi-chef de parties or Commis working with you

Reporting directly to the Head Chef or Senior Chefs this position will assist in the running of a busy kitchen.

Role and Responsibilities

A commis chef is the first rung of the ladder to becoming a great chef. In most kitchens, a commis will do food preparation work and basic cooking under the supervision of a chef de partie.

A commis chef will have duties when first starting to work to help gain more experience.

The main focus of this role is to learn as much as possible to help give you the best chance of having a great career. This is a great role to help your team work skills as you will have to communicate with everyone. You can expect friendship and banter whilst doing some great food.

Key responsibilities:

• Maintaining high standards of hygiene
• Preparing the ingredients for a more senior chef
• Measuring dish ingredients and portion sizes accurately
• Dealing with deliveries and stock rotation
• Helping to maintain up to date HACCP
• Work quickly and efficiently to a high standard

The ideal candidate should have excellent customer service skills, to welcome guests and see to their needs. You should have a smart appearance and also be physically fit, for carrying luggage.

Main Responsibilities:

Assisting guests by carrying luggage
Advising on hotel facilities
Running errands for guests and other departments in the hotel
Giving directions
Responding to safety and security issues
Answering queries
Day to day cleaning of all outdoor public areas
Basic maintenance of the public areas in the hotel
A valid gun licence would be preferred but not essential
